Gmail on Mobile Gets 1 important Boost | Google’s New Translation Feature

translation feature

For a very long time, Gmail on desktop has included machine translation as a standard feature. It’s something that the service’s smartphone app severely lacks, along with many other cutting-edge capabilities. The best course of action when translating an email is to copy the body and paste it into a translator like Google Translate. The mobile version of Gmail will soon feature built-in email translations, eliminating the need for that step.

Google has updated the Gmail app for smartphones with native translation, as it stated on its Workspace Updates blog. To translate an email, all you have to do is open it in a language other than the one you choose as your Gmail display language, and the app will immediately offer to translate the content for you.

Google Translate will automatically identify the language the email is written in and then translate the contents for you to the best of its ability when you tap on the dismissible banner above the body. It supports 100 different languages in total, much like the desktop version.

You can always touch on the three-dot menu and choose the option to manually translate the email if the app for some reason doesn’t display this dismissible banner. There is also the option to manually set languages you don’t want translated if you speak numerous languages and don’t need translations for some of them. You can choose which languages you wish the app to constantly translate in a similar manner. This is perfectly OK and consistent with how Gmail for desktop handles translations.

Although the feature is now being rolled out, it could take up to two weeks for it to reach your smartphone. Ensure that the Gmail app is completely updated.
